Local volunteers wanted to recreate Bindles Ballroom and Red Coats

daytogonline

New Wales based theatre company, PaperTrail will be launching its first production in Barry in April and they are looking for local volunteers to help create characters from Bindles Ballroom and Red Coats.

Day To Go is an extraordinary site-specific play produced by PaperTrail, a new theatre company founded by writer and director Bridget Keehan, who has spent many years living in Barry. The audience journey together on a bus to various sites around the town of Barry, near Cardiff. Along the way they hear stories inspired by the places they visit and by local people who live along the route the bus takes.

There are also various characters based upon these stories, who appear en route: the abandoned bride, the woman who can’t stop swimming, the former Butlins Redcoat who has a confession to make and even the patron saint of Barry himself.  Audiences will be transported to a Barry they didn’t even know existed…

The theatre company are looking for 20 volunteers who would be available for a few Saturdays for the rehearsals and performance from 1 March until 12 April and some taster workshops in February.

Creator of Day To Go, Bridget Keehan said: “I’m looking to recreate Bindles Ballroom on the seafront with a ballroom dancing sequence and am looking for older people in particular to get involved, especially those with any recollections of Bindles. I’m also on the lookout for former redcoats. You don’t need to have any experience. The taster workshops will give you free ballroom dance lessons, free refreshments and will be lots of fun!”

Please contact Bridget Keehan no later than Friday 21st February on 07903 105529 bridget.keehan@papertrail.org.uk. There is no audition process.

Further information about the performance can be found at here.

Tickets for the performance in April are on sale now from the Memo Arts Centre.
