Relaxed film screenings for people with dementia, their carers and families.
Cine-Memories is a series of monthly daytime film screenings of great classic movies for people living with dementia, their carers and families. These film screenings are accessible and open to all.
The screenings aim to make cinema more accessible by providing a fun and inclusive experience to enable people living with dementia to attend the cinema in a safe and welcoming environment.
A regular cinema screening can be daunting with loud music, dark shadows and inaccessible seating. Our screenings provide relaxed seating, where audiences can sing, dance and move around in a softly lit environment with more comfortable sound levels and our Dementia Friends trained staff are on hand who understand patrons’ needs.
Feedback from dementia friendly cinema attendees:
“She struggles to recall seeing the film afterwards but she enjoys the experience and it is lovely to see her show some spark and an inkling of understanding”
“My husband’s dementia has excluded us from many activities but with dementia screenings we feel safe enough to enjoy going to the cinema again. It has been liberating for us both as we cope with this isolating illness”
Doors open 30 minutes before the advertised time to give people the chance to meet and socialise with others, and to familiarise themselves with the cinema space.
Tickets are only £5, including a tea or coffee with biscuit served during a short interval, and may be purchased in person at the Box Office, or via our website.
