This concert is part of Memo Mornings, our relaxed live music series held on the first Thursday of the month at 11:00am. These informal one-hour concerts feature small ensembles of some of the best young classical musicians, offering a welcoming atmosphere and a joyful mid-morning musical escape in Barry.
Sinfonia Cymru violist Isobel Neary-Adams is on a mission to send you home singing — or at least humming — the music you’ve just heard. This concert is packed with soaring melodies and unforgettable themes, some instantly familiar and others waiting to become new favourites.
The programme opens with an arrangement of the beloved Welsh song Sosban Fach, followed by the intimate and deeply moving original string quartet version of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. At the heart of the concert is Ernst von Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet No. 1, a richly melodic work that weaves recurring themes across its four movements into a joyful and satisfying finale.
Featuring five dynamic Sinfonia Cymru musicians, the concert will also include a few surprises from the worlds of film and musical theatre — a chance to discover something new that you’ll want to hear again and again.
