Manchester, 1976. Granada TV presenter Tony Wilson attends a Sex Pistols gig and is inspired to establish Factory Records with his friends. What follows is an extraordinary journey through music, nightlife and the personalities that helped shape a cultural movement, including Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays.
From the punk explosion and the rise of Factory Records to the opening of The Haçienda, 24 Hour Party People captures the energy, excess and creativity of a defining period in British music.
Directed by Michael Winterbottom, the film brings together an unforgettable cast of musicians, artists and personalities as they navigate the highs, lows and surreal moments of Manchester’s legendary music scene.
24 Hour Party People is part of Escapes, a nationwide initiative offering audiences the chance to step out of the everyday and into the magic of cinema – for free.
