Intergenerational Dance

The Memo Arts Centre is inviting men and women aged 60+ to join a new exciting intergenerational dance and mindfulness project called “MIXER”, which is an exploratory project working with children and older people, using the arts to celebrate shared social and cultural heritages.

The project is bringing professional dance artists from The Republic of the Imagination to work at the Memo with 15 adults aged 60+ and 15 primary school children who will be supported by their teachers over 10 weeks, during the workshops the participants will explore mindfulness and dance in what we aim to be a really relaxed and enjoyable setting.

The sessions will take place on Tuesdays 10am – 12pm at the Memo Arts Centre, Barry from 8th October until 3rd December, on the final session we will be holding a sharing of the work created. Participants don’t need to have any dance experience, just an open mind and a willingness to try new things.

Megan Merrett, Volunteers and Participation Coordinator at the Memo, shared her enthusiasm for the project.

“This is a great opportunity for two very different generations in our community to come together to share, learn mindfulness techniques, explore dance, be creative, and learn from each other through the arts. We can’t wait to see what happens.”
