Memo Shaping Up Development Plan
Over the past four years the Memo has been working with our audiences, stakeholders, artists, and the wider community, to tell us what they believe would further enhance and strengthen their engagement, participation and shared enjoyment of our vibrant arts and cultural experiences.
Under the title of Memo Shaping Up, these community gathered conversations provided feedback with exciting ideas that identified key priorities needed to revitalise Barry’s much-loved arts centre.
These priorities focused on enhancing our visitors experience, access, and availability of bespoke production and staging resources.
Memo Shaping Up aims to:
- Increase capacity of our social spaces
- Open our café/bar throughout the day and not just before events
- Install a second screen to provide daily cinema
- Enhance accessibility and our visitors journey
- Install sustainable heating systems
- Provide digital presentation and production resources to support our programme, community theatre and presentation hirers
Memo Shaping Up offers innovative future proofing and sustainable interventions that will create an inclusive, accessible environment, with the capacity to deliver more programming activities that respond to our community diverse needs.
Our community’s vision for this project has been made possible by the valued support and feasibility funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council Shared Prosperity Fund. Working with this investment, we have in partnership with our architects and professional industry consultants explored how to best deliver a re-imagined, accessible and sustainable Memo for our local community.
This ongoing feasibility work has enabled the Memo to achieve further investment from the Vale of Glamorgan Council Levelling Up Shared Prosperity Fund to support a third of the projected project costs.

The Memo is extremely grateful for the support and funding received to date, we are now working hard towards achieving this exciting next fundraising chapter to realise this project. We’re almost half-way to our goal to raise £1.2m.
